Eat Real Festival is an annual celebration of good food with a focus on artisan food craft, street food, craft beers, local wines and delicious cocktails—all featuring sustainable local ingredients. |
Chris and I are always up for trying new foods. I grew up eating fresh California cuisine that was local and lightly seasoned. On the other end of the spectrum, Chris grew up with lots of traditional midwest fare mixed with tongue-on-fire spicy Vietnamese food. But we could always agree on FOOD TRUCKS! Smorgasbord on wheels, what’s not to love? There’s a little something for everyone, usually hot off the grill and never boring.
When I saw that Oakland was hosting the Eat Real Festival, I knew this was the ticket to our next Mystery Date. It was a perfect late summer day for ferry ride across the Bay, so we walked over to the Ferry Building and cruised over to the Festival at Jack London Square.

As soon as we arrived at the Festival, we were greeted with the smell of the world’s cuisines and lots of music. Where to start? First we grabbed a local beer and made a loop to see what caught our eye (or nose). I settled on Korean BBQ while Chris tried the Kung Fu Tacos. Next was a bacon mac & cheese that was stupendously rich, and a sweet sorbet for dessert. The food was great and the people watching even better. No doubt about it, we got to Eat Real!
