Welcome to Tha Dro. |
Kathleen and I met on a party bus in San Francisco for a mutual friend’s birthday. This is what our first conversation was like:
Chris: Do you work at UPS?
Kathleen: Ummm, no.
Chris: Oh sorry, I could have sworn you were checking out my package.
Okay, this isn’t how we started talking, but I do love that joke (packaging jokes never get old). Here’s how it really went down.
Kathleen: So where do you work?
Chris: Oh, a small town you've probably never heard of.
Kathleen: Oh really? Try me...
Chris: San Leandro?
Kathleen: Of course I know it! I grew up there!

Small world right? The Dro was one of our very first connections and also the scene of our first date. So when I heard about Don Reed’s one man show titled East 14th Street, named for the main road running through San Leandro to Oakland, I thought it would be fun to go check it out. Part comedy, part drama, it was an engaging recount of Don's upbringing in Oakland. The one man show was enjoyable and we chuckled at the local jokes. After all these years, Don is still performing the show to great reviews. Go check it out! Here are some reviews on the latest performances:

Well I got a little overzealous this month. After getting reservations for Don’s show, I discovered Ottmar Liebert was coming to town at a small, intimate venue (Hotel Nikko). Besides having a cool name that is fun to say, Ottmar is a genius at flamenco guitar and his music is both astounding and accessible. I couldn't pass it up so I literally doubled down and took Kathleen out on two Mystery Dates! Ottmar did not disappoint and it was a truly awesome to see him perform live from about 15 feet away! Check him out at https://ottmarliebert.com/music/index.php.
