Leaving San Francisco is like saying goodbye to an old sweetheart. You want to linger as long as possible. - Walter Kronkite |
Ahhh, summer in San Francisco... while it’s debatable whether or not San Francisco has much of a summer at all, I figured this was a good date to do while the days were longer. I scouted around and decided it would be fun to sail upon the San Francisco Bay Sunset Cruise. There’s nothing quite like seeing the San Francisco Bay from a new perspective — the water!
Date night was a Friday so there was a bit of a scramble to get home, get ready and get over to Pier 43. Chris and I are used to hoofing it around the city, but even our power walking wasn’t going to get us there on time. As we dodged people along the Embarcadero eager to get their Friday night started, I kept my eyes peeled for a cab. The outlook was not good, but low and behold, along came a Pedicab just in the nick of time!
We made it on time and boarded the cruise boat. A nice spread of food and wine was waiting for the guests. Great way to spend happy hour! As we munched and sipped, the boat left the dock and off we went, watching the city get father and farther away as we head out to deeper waters. As the sun set in the west, the cruise rounded past Alcatraz and headed toward the Marin Headlands while pointing out all our favorite landmarks in the city.

The fog began to roll in ad we cruised towards the majestic Golden Gate Bridge. No matter where you’re from or how many times you’ve seen it, the view of the Golden Gate does not get old. We were getting closer and it was getting colder and windier on the deck, but we were determined to see the underside of the bridge from the top of the boat.
Once past the Golden Gate Bridge, we were briefly outside of the Bay and in the Pacific. After a short time, we made a giant U-turn and re-traced our steps. By this point, it was too cold for most so everyone headed inside to get their hot chocolate and warm up. It’s times like these I’m reminded that we live in such a special place, a place people travel from all over the world to visit and we should not take them for granted. So what better way to enjoy the "tourist traps" than undercover on a Mystery Date! |
